From My Desk to Yours June 2019

Take time to smell the roses and the honeysuckle this month. After all, it’s June and the days are longest, so there’s time for gardening, camping and tennis in this first month of summer. Take stock of your achievements as it’s also the end of the 2nd quarter and the midpoint of the year. Happy Father’s Day to all great Dads. Iced tea anyone?

Student debt continues to weigh heavily on the personal finances of millennials. Since 2006, the amount of college loans has more than tripled to $1.6 trillion, and is now the second largest category of consumer borrowing after mortgages. Saddled with higher levels of debt than previous generations, today’s millennials have median student loan balances of $25,000, nearly double that of Gen-Xers’ balances of $12,800 at the same age. According to Fed data, between 2005 and 2014, the homeownership rate among individuals ages 24-32 fell from 45% to 36% and has been dropping steadily. Getting approved for a mortgage is particularly daunting among this group because of student loans.

Meet Michael Browne, owner and managing partner of TC Browne & Co, a full service licensed general contractor serving residential and commercial clients for more than 14 years. Mike was my son’s GC for a gut reno on CPW, I was impressed with his work ethic and easy going manner. Adept at both interiors and exteriors, his work ranges from minor repair to full scale ground up construction. I’ve hired him to help ready properties for the market and would not hesitate to use his services for my own personal projects. He is supremely talented, reliable and fair, and has a full team of skilled and experienced employees and subs. Clients appreciate his responsiveness; he adheres to schedules and returns to address issues that might arise after the job is done. He’s a gem.
